The Governor's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities is a wealth of information to help educate employers and the community about employing people with disabilities. There are many ways to gain the knowledge you need to improve employment opportunities and to make a difference in your workplace.

Training

During our Quarterly Meeting/Conferences we include a training component geared to increase awareness of issues and attitudes that effect employment of people with disabilities. Our training topics range from sensitivity awareness to recent litigation and application of laws protecting people with disabilities. Formal training sessions are only one way to gain knowledge. The networking experience at these meetings with fellow attendees provides an informal and very effective way of getting to know disability and employment issues on a more personal level.

The Governor's Committee has developed a formal disability sensitivity awareness (attitudinal training) program called Windmills. The curriculum consists of 11 sections (modules) that use participation and discovery as learning vehicles. The Windmills Attitudinal Training Program manual is an outstanding tool to add to any Disability Awareness trainer's toolkit. To find out more about Windmills please click here.

Many of the Governor's Committee training events are cosponsored by the Pacific Disability and Business Technical Assistance Center (PacDBTAC). This regional training center offers employers resources and training to increase understanding of disability law and issues. For more information about training programs and services in your area please contact PacDBTAC or visit their website by clicking on their name above.

Members of the committee and our affiliated local committees have the knowledge and expertise to provide informational presentations for employers, organizations and agencies on various topics related to disability and employment. Please feel free to contact our staff office for referrals.
