FRIENDS OF CALIFORNIANS WITH DISABILITIES, INC.

WHO ARE WE?

Friends of Californians with Disabilities, Inc., is a leader in developing statewide and national partnerships to increase employment and independent living opportunities for people with disabilities. We played a major leadership role in the partnership that created such innovative nationally acclaimed projects as the California Youth Leadership Forum for Students with Disabilities (YLF), the Media Access Office and Awards and the “Windmills” Disability Awareness Diversity Training Program.

More than fifteen years ago, the volunteer members of the California Governor’s Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities created Friends, Inc., a private non-profit 501 (C)(3) corporation. Its purpose then was exclusively to enable the members from private corporations to financially support the Committee’s special projects.  State legislation recently reorganized the Committee. Friends, Inc., continues to support the Committee’s important policy-focused mission but has re-focused and expanded its own operations and activities.

SHARING CALIFORNIA’S SUCCESS

Many of the innovative programs developed in partnership with Friends, Inc., have now been shared with our partners throughout the nation and in many other countries, including Canada, France and Japan. However, the extraordinarily high unemployment and poverty rates for people with disabilities make our continuing challenge clear.

WANT TO JOIN OUR PARTNERSHIP?

Together, we can build the partnerships to provide opportunities to strengthen our communities throughout California!
